Build It, Move It, Protect It: Important Event Announcement
Building the Front, Strengthening Our Movement virtual event on March 9th
On Thursday March 9th at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time), there is an interesting event that aligns with the Build It, Move It, Protect It series. “Building the Front, Strengthening Our Movement” is a virtual panel of experienced organizers and activists in battleground states who are doing the hard work of organizing their communities for change with a focus on building political power. These groups are working not just to organize for the next election cycle, but for long-term success. They have been doing the kind of organizing that I have been arguing we should be investing more in.
Worker Power AZ, for example, has been doing this kind of organizing in Arizona for over a decade and is an important reason why that state is no longer a “Safe GOP” state. The Working Families Party has been instrumental in organizing phone and text banks at election time. (Full disclosure: I’ve volunteered on campaigns with both Worker Power and WFP in the past.) In addition to attending this event, I urge you to consider these organizations in your 2023 donation strategy. Links to donate to these important organizing groups are below.
Also, you may want to read and support the good work at Convergence and The Forge, which are sponsoring this event.
Building the Front, Strengthening Our Movement
Event description: How do our organizations navigate the dual tasks of building power to make long-term gains for our communities and working in a broad front to defeat MAGA in 2024 and beyond? Our panelists will dig into their deep and varied experience to suggest ways we can build real-world coordination among Left and progressive groups—and how we might work productively with more centrist forces who may only agree with us on one thing: the need to fight the Right.
Panelists:
Sendolo Diaminah, The Carolina Federation
Alexa Horwart, Faith in MN
Maurice Mitchell, Working Families Party
Brendan Walsh, Worker Power AZ
Co-Hosts:
Hashim Benford, Grassroots Power Project
Priya Johnson, Grassroots Power Project
Note: This event is being co-sponsored by Convergence Magazine and The Forge.
